Dubai Airports completes biometric integration to speed up passenger journeys
The system enables passengers to complete the full travel process, from check-in and baggage drop to boarding, with full digital connectivity targeted by year-end
Dubai Airports has completed the expansion of its smart travel system, which uses biometric and facial recognition technologies across all terminals at Dubai International Airport. The airport’s operations management said the move had reduced the average time required to complete passport and security procedures to less than 10 seconds per passenger, without the need for paper documents. The technological upgrades come as the airport accommodates record passenger numbers and seeks to streamline movement through one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs.
The new digital system allows passengers to complete every stage of their journey—from check-in and baggage drop-off to boarding—through a unified smart pathway. Technical data showed that the system operates in line with the highest standards of cybersecurity and personal data protection, in co-operation with the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs. The initiative is helping to improve the airport’s operational efficiency and enhance the experience of customers and visitors from a wide range of nationalities and destinations.
Dubai continues to expand its adoption of artificial intelligence solutions and advanced technologies across the aviation and tourism sectors. Air transport experts say the airport’s smart infrastructure gives it a significant competitive advantage, based on rapid response and operational flexibility. Management is working towards full digital connectivity by the end of this year to ensure the highest levels of comfort and a seamless experience for passengers.
